Quincy
Community Action Programs, Inc. (QCAP) is a private, nonprofit organization
that provides a variety of services to low and moderate-income people
to help them improve the quality of their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
Established in 1965 as one of Massachusetts' 25 Community Action Agencies
(CAAs), QCAP has evolved over the years to address the needs of residents
in Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Milton, Hull and surrounding South Shore
and Norfolk County Communities. QCAP's mission is:
Through public and private partnerships
we will endeavor to assist families and individuals in our communities
to improve the quality of their lives by minimizing the effects of
poverty, promoting self-sufficiency and advocating for social change.
QCAP
accomplishes its mission by providing services in five main areas
- Housing, Adult
Learning and Workforce Development, Child
and Family Development, Energy,
and Food and Nutrition.
QCAP
is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors
that is structured to give the low-income people we seek to assist
a voice in determining agency policy. To this end, one-third of
QCAP's board consists of neighborhood sector representatives, who
are elected to serve on the board by the residents of Quincy's low-income
neighborhoods. The remainder of the board is comprised of representatives
from the private and public sectors.
In 37 years, QCAP has grown to serve nearly 20,000 unduplicated individuals annually through more than 40 state and federal contracts. The agency also receives support from private donors and foundations for many of its activities. QCAP continuously seeks new resources and creative ways to deliver services that meet changing community needs. The Agency's efforts are focused on advocating for the preservation and development of affordable housing, quality child care, educational opportunities and jobs that pay a living wage to insure that the people served continue to have opportunities for self-sufficiency.
