High energy bills can drain a household's financial resources leaving limited funds for other necessities. Inefficient or unsafe heating systems threaten health and safety. QCAP's Energy Program provides financial assistance to thousands of people during the winter months to help them heat their homes. In addition, the program works throughout the year to help households with home improvements that will help conserve energy and keep heating bills low.

Fuel Assistance

No matter what type of heating system you have, QCAP's Fuel Assistance program can provide you with financial assistance to help you pay your winter heating bills. The amount of assistance you qualify for is based on household size and total income for all members as shown below.

Utility Discounts

If you are eligible for Fuel Assistance you may also access utility discounts through Mass. Electric, NSTAR Electric, KeySpan Gas Co. and Verizon local telephone service.

Heating System Repair & Replacement

If you own your home and are eligible for Fuel Assistance you may receive emergency assistance to repair or even replace your inefficient or inoperable heating system. Regular clean, tune and evaluation services are also available to keep your heating system in good working order.

Energy Conservation (Weatherization)

Homeowners and renters eligible for Fuel Assistance can access a variety of free weatherization services to help make your home more energy efficient. QCAP will conduct a free energy audit of your home to find air leaks and arrange for a contractor to perform needed weatherization work including attic and wall insulation, weather-stripping, and air sealing.

Utility Sponsored Energy Conservation Programs

QCAP in cooperation with local utility companies offers special utility energy conservation programs designed to reduce the cost of your utility bills and help you conserve energy. Services include weatherization for customers enrolled in KeySpan, Mass. Electric or NSTAR utility discount programs. In addition, Mass. Electric and NSTAR customers can learn how to save energy and money through a free appliance and electric usage audit. You will also receive free energy efficient light bulbs and possibly a new refrigerator if yours is a high-energy user.
