Programs and Services

The lack of adequate income and the high cost of food and other necessities make it difficult and sometimes impossible for low-income people to purchase nutritious food. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to the consequences of poor nutrition. QCAP helps families and individuals with limited resources by providing emergency food, serving senior meals, promoting nutrition awareness and developing community support for feeding programs.

Families and individuals having difficulty stretching their budgets to cover food cost can receive fresh, nutritious food once a month or more often in extreme cases, through the EFC. The EFC has a large walk-in refrigerator and freezer and stocks many fresh foods that families and individuals need for good nutrition. EFC staff also provide information and referral to QCAP and other community services as needed. The EFC serves residents of Quincy, Weymouth and surrounding South Shore communities.

Service Area: Quincy and surrounding communities

Senior citizens in crisis, as well as those who are looking for a nutritious meal or the friendship of others can find help and support at QCAP's Southwest Community Center. Homeless and at-risk elderly can come to the SWCC on the weekend for hot meals and case management services that include housing search and benefits advocacy. Once a week, local seniors gather at the center for a nutritious lunch and the opportunity to socialize with friends, helping to reduce their sense of isolation.

The SWCC serves people throughout Quincy and many surrounding towns. The staff and volunteers at the center have created a warm caring atmosphere where an individual's needs can be met and their strengths valued.
