MassSTEP (Skills – Training – Education Programs)
QCAP partners with Quincy Collegeto provide the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ MassSTEP programwith support form theDepartment of Elementary and Secondary Education. This program is designed to help adult English Language Learners who are interested in the Information Technology (IT) field, take their first steps into the industry.
Students attend two college-level, credit-bearing classes at Quincy College, alongside an IT-focused English class taught by QCAP instructors. The end goal is for students to take and pass the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ exam, gaining a foundational credential for people who want to get started in the IT field as Computer Support Specialists.
At Quincy College, students enroll in two college-level classes that provide the technical training: Operating Systems and Principles of Customer Services. Meanwhile, QCAP instructors teach supplemental ESOL classes to give students extra support, with a curriculum custom-designed to integrate English instruction, civics, and IT-focused Workplace Training.
QCAP staff provide Education and Career advising services to help students identify and achieve their long-term goals with one-on-one career planning, resume/CV workshops, mock interviews, and other wrap-around services as needed.
Program Schedule
We offer two cohorts of this program each year, with 12 students per cohort. The first cohort runs from September to February, and the second cohort runs from April to August. Each cohort runs for 20 weeks, and students are scheduled to take the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ exam after the end of the 20-week program.
The class schedules are often different between cohorts, so we ask students to plan on being available between the hours of 10AM and 4PM open from Monday – Thursday. Courses are currently being held online. If you don’t have access to a computer, QCAP can lend you a Chromebook to use for the class after you’ve been enrolled.
Program Costs
All classes, textbooks, and other course materials are provided to students at no cost. Students are only responsible for the cost of taking the CompTIA exam at the end of the course. Please don’t register for the exam on your own, your course instructor will help you after you’ve enrolled.
