Housing Counseling

Safe and affordable housing should be available to all members of our community. Our community thrives when all members have a place to call home. As a certified Department of Housing and Urban Development Housing Counseling Agency, QCAP provides a wide range of housing services to tenants, homeowners and those in need of housing.

Homelessness Prevention Services

QCAP promotes housing stability by helping tenants and property owners avoid costly disputes, eviction, turnover and housing loss. Housing counseling and homelessness prevention services include:

  • Information about tenant/landlord rights and responsibilities
  • Virtual fair housing and housing search workshops
  • Eviction counseling by virtual appointment and at Quincy District Court
  • Emergency rental assistance (limited depending upon community and tenant eligibility)
  • Landlord/tenant dispute resolution

Housing Search Assistance

Monthly affordable housing search workshops available in person and via Zoom. This comprehensive 2 ½ hour class discusses the state of affordable/subsidized housing in MA; how to complete the State Common Housing Application for MA Programs (CHAMP) application as well as the centralized S-8 application. The course also gives an overview of Federal and MA Fair housing laws and protections as well as in-depth instructions on how to access your Criminal offender Record Inquiry (CORI) report and potential options for sealing  prior convictions.

Once applications are complete, appointments are available with a housing counselor to set up and learn how to use the CHAMP account.

All workshop participants are also given a copy of a Housing Search guide that further defines various housing opportunities and offers additional resources for finding affordable housing opportunities.
